1238-1351 CE
From 1238 to 1351 CE, the Siamese emerged from Khmer shadow to forge their own kingdom at Sukhothai — Ram Khamhaeng creating the Thai script, his stone inscription proclaiming a land where "there are fish in the water and rice in the fields." This first Thai golden age blended Khmer grandeur with Theravada simplicity, building Buddha images of unprecedented grace before Ayutthaya rose to eclipse its parent.
