750-1375 CE
From 750 to 1375 CE, the Sicáns raised golden lords from Peru's desert coast — their craftsmen perfecting metalwork that conquistadors would one day melt into ingots, their great adobe pyramids at Batán Grande housing tombs of unimaginable wealth. The Lord of Sicán's golden mask gazed upon a kingdom built on irrigation and copper, until Chimú conquerors absorbed their lands and carried their artisans north to Chan Chan.
