Gurjaras III

1407-1573 CE

From 1407 to 1573 CE, the Gurjaras of the Gujarat Sultanate built an empire of ports and profits — Ahmedabad rising as one of the world's great cities, its merchants trading textiles to Africa and spices to Europe, its sultans patronizing mosques and stepwells of breathtaking beauty. Mahmud Begada conquered the coast and broke pirate fleets; his successors watched helplessly as Mughal armies marched from Agra to claim their wealthy prize.
