1526-1605 CE
From 1526 to 1605 CE, the Mughals descended from the Afghan passes to build India's most magnificent empire — Babur winning Hindustan at Panipat with a handful of cannons, his grandson Akbar conquering from Gujarat to Bengal and then doing what no Muslim ruler had attempted: seeking to unite Hindu and Muslim in a new faith of divine light. The empire he built would endure two centuries; the tolerance he preached died with him.
